Silence

Have I mentioned that I love all the cool stuff I can do on this new blog?! :D You may have noticed the music player between the header and the posts section; I have it set not to autostart, so you can click play if you want to listen to the music, or leave it off if you so desire. It's just a random, shuffled list of some of my favorite songs. I'll probably be changing it up every now and then. I love music!!! :D

Well, we made our trip to Weatherford. We drove up there Saturday afternoon/evening, and came home Sunday night/Monday morning. Our house there is awesome! It's actually on the outskirts of the little town of Springtown, population about 3,000. The house has 4 bedrooms (one will be Dad's office), 2 bathrooms, 2 living rooms (one will be the classroom/library), a BIG entryway, kitchen (complete with a GAS stove! Thank God! :D), dining room, and a sun room (which will be Mom's scrapbook room). It's on 7 acres, with trees, a pool, and a trampoline. :D We got to "camp out" there--in the house--Saturday night; we even grilled hot dogs there on Sunday!
We officially move in on the 15th, so we'll be packing and all that good stuff in earnest over the next couple of weeks. I'm working on getting my room cleaned up and everything sorted through before packing. When we moved to Midland, I actually had a box labeled "Haley's Mess" that just had all the stuff I hadn't gotten organized thrown into a box. :P That box was NOT fun to unpack! So, I'm down to just a couple little piles on my desk and one little box to sort through. I've actually thrown stuff away, too...you can ask my family, that's a big deal! :D I should be done organizing, etc. tomorrow and will start packing away the decorative stuff and books that I won't need for a little while. I really do not like packing...unpacking is a LOT more fun! :D

I got to drive the truck!! I actually didn't drive it back from Nanna's house because I decided I didn't want my first time driving it to be in the dark...a bit odd, I know, but that's the way I am. I got to drive it once here in town, and then I drove part of the way back from Weatherford last night/this morning (I took the 11:45 PM -1:30 AM section of the trip). That was an experience, since we were pulling the U-haul trailer back to return it here in Midland. It wasn't too bad, though--and obviously, we all survived. :D And I do definitely like driving the truck, a lot!! I've decided we live in Silverado country; on the way to Good News Club today, I saw at least 4 Chevy Silverado trucks!!

So what does any of this post have to do with silence? Well...as I was driving home last night (this morning, whatever), everybody else in the car was asleep. We didn't have a CD to put in the CD player, and I was afraid that me flipping through radio channels looking for something to listen to would wake up my guys. So I just drove along in absolute silence. I don't normally do silence very well. Ask my family, I always have some music going in my room. But after driving about 2 hours in complete silence last night, I think that maybe a time of silence should be part of my daily routine.
There's something special about silence; there's a depth, a profoundness to it. It gives God a chance to fill the emptiness and me a chance to just be with Him.
Without consciously praying or anything, I could just sense that God was there in a very real and close way. There was no need to talk or think or anything, just being with Him was enough. It's very hard to describe, it just has to be experienced!
So I still love music and will still usually have it going in my room. But me and silence...we could become good friends.

May the Lord bless you richly with all that He is, and may you take time to sit in the silence and just be with Him! :D

Sex & "the good Christian single"

Yep. Buckle up, we're going there. This post might get a little uncomfortable, but it's a topic that can't exactly be ignored! And, as I said at the beginning of this little "series" earlier this year, "my goal is to be uncomfortably honest, vulnerable, real, raw." Besides, the world is talking about sex all the time , and if we as Jesus-followers don't talk about it from a Jesus-perspective, the world is going to shape the views and opinions of sex for an entire generation. Or two. Or more.  Let's start with some basic statements just for the sake of clarity: 1. Sex is God's idea, and it is good.  All through the Bible, from Adam & Eve being "naked & unashamed" in the garden of Eden (Genesis 2), to the graphic love poetry of Song of Solomon, to Paul exhorting husbands and wives to freely share their bodies with one another in 1 Corinthians 7, the Bible paints a picture of sex within marriage being good, beautiful, encourag

Six Flags!

Some would no doubt consider it a strange "Sabbath kick-off", but for me a trip to Six Flags Over Texas (in Arlington) was just the ticket! Between my love of roller coasters, the nostalgia this place holds, and the healthy benefits of fresh air and sunshine, it was fantastic. Oh, and the company was pretty great, too. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to have my "OG Six Flags fam" along--aka, my family and the Vests, of course! Six Flags has always been about facing and overcoming fear for me. I was a very fearful/timid child, and as an adult looking back I think one of the best things my parents did for my little anxious self was take me to ride roller coasters!! (I would insert the "tears of joy" emoji here if I could!) I was coaxed and cajoled on to rides I was hesitant about, but never forced to ride anything--though I waited in every line with them and I was not allowed to complain. Every year, there were rides where

oh, look! it's a blog!

I really thought I was going to do better at blogging this month. Ha! I have a post in my drafts section that I started two weeks ago, but there it sits. It's going to require more time and thought to finish than I have at this moment, so it will have to wait. However, it IS going to get finished and posted at some point! :) Today, for most of the day it's just Jonathan and I here at home. Weird, huh? Daddy, Micah, and Josiah are at a men's retreat/camp-out with the church, and Momma had to work today. So, Jonathan and I are hanging out (read: cleaning house and putting the new sheets on the beds and icing cupcakes :) ). This evening, there is a "praise for pro-life" thing at a church here in Springtown that we're planning to go to. It's a fundraiser for a pregnancy center. (October 24, 6 pm, Outreach of Love church on Hwy 199 in Springtown, admission is a baby bottle full of change...just in case anyone wanted to know!) Tomorrow after church, we're ha
