Hey, it's tomorrow!

OK, so I said that a post was coming tomorrow. Hey, it's "tomorrow"! So what that it's now tomorrow's tomorrow...and perhaps now I have you sufficiently confused that you won't care that I'm a day off when I said I was going to post. *vbg*

So, let's see...longer and newsier. Well, longer won't be difficult; I think this post is already longer than Tuesday's. Newsier, on the other hand...when nothing much is going on, that one can be hard to accomplish! So if the events of my life start to sound boring or mundane, just remember this: it's a lot more fun to live it than to talk about it!

I've almost got all my Christmas shopping done; now it's just a matter of finishing the making/putting together somehow of various and sundry items. Once I have a present for everyone in my immediate family actually in my possession, I'll wrap them and put them under the tree. I like being the first one to put gifts under the tree; but I like to put at least one for each person under there, so nobody feels left out.
When I went to order *a certain some body's* present on Saturday, I was having difficulty with the online store I was shopping at. Every time I clicked "add to cart", it came up saying "web page could not be found". So, I went looking for an e-mail address or phone number to contact somebody about it--preferably an e-mail address. I try to avoid making phone calls whenever it is remotely possible. Praise the Lord, I found an e-mail address, fired off a quick e-mail, and moved on to other things. Just a few minutes later, I got an e-mail back. But what's this?! It says, "Call me. [phone number]. Bob." *rolls eyes* Remember, I try to avoid making phone calls whenever remotely possible...especially to people I don't know!!! But, there was no help for it; if I was going to get this particular item for this particular person, I was going to have to call that phone number. *sigh*
I worked up my nerve, called the number, and managed an opening sentence without too much stammering or "um...uh"ing. The guy (Bob!) was really nice, and quickly made me feel at ease, despite the fact that I was way out of my element. He asked if I'd ever ordered from them before, and when I said no he said, "Well, that shoots my theory!" in the most normal sort of way. :D Apparently, they've switched stores and had a lot of people trying to order from the old store and getting the "this web page could not be found". Well, since that wasn't (we thought) the problem, he said, "Well, we're on the road right now, but when we get home, which will be Monday morning, you can call this same number and I'll just take a phone order." I suddenly had an epiphany. I was talking to someone who was at that very moment traveling on *a certain Homecoming friend's* bus. Wow! :D I felt very special all of a sudden.
Well, anyway, Bob was really nice and apologetic about not being able to help me right then and all. After we hung up, I got to wondering if I was perhaps getting to the wrong store because I wasn't actually clicking the link from the homepage; I was on a different page. So I went to the homepage, clicked the "store" link, and voila! it worked like a charm! I ordered my stuff, got my confirmation e-mail and was very happy. A few minutes later, my cell phone rang. I didn't recognize the phone number, which normally means I wouldn't answer it, but then I realized that area code was the one I had just called to talk to Bob. Could it be...? Yes, it was! He says, "I just saw that your order came through..." Apparently he gets an e-mail notification of every online order on his Blackberry! I was caught totally off guard, but managed to say something like, "Yeah, I don't know if I was doing something wrong or what, but it worked for me!" *rolls eyes* Lame, I know, but all I could think of at the moment. He just said, "That's great! We'll get it out Monday morning!"
So, FYI, just in case anybody cared, Mark Lowry has got great, friendly customer service...even when he's out on the road! :D (yes, I know, I just disclosed the identity of the *certain Homecoming friend*...but it's OK, the *certain person* that the gift is for doesn't read my blog :D. And yes, I also know that most people probably don't care a whit about any of this story, but hey...I told you nothing was going on! And it is my blog. :D)

Other than that, nothing's up. Life is delightfully slow and simple these days; I think I am really going to like this "work 2 days, off 2 weeks" thing immensely. :D Now if I could just get myself scheduled enough to get school done while I'm home...well, maybe after the holidays. Right now, every spare moment is pretty much spent working on Christmas presents. Except the 33 minutes I've just spent blogging, of course. :D -edit: which is turning into more and more minutes...I don't know if it's my computer or our *lousy* internet connection, but this thing won't post! I may just give up in despair and wait until tomorrow...at which point it will be the day after tomorrow's tomorrow, rather than the promised tomorrow in the Tuesday post. :P-

I'm off to bed...blame my rambling nonsense on being tired! I "turn into a pumpkin" about 10 pm, it's past my bedtime! I'll try to post something more meaningful and worth reading soon...but I'll make no promises about when! Here's a question for you to answer in a comment: do you have your Christmas shopping done? Are you a "gift-maker" or a "gift-buyer" or both? :D Have fun this Christmas...don't stress out about it, keep it simple!

I've always been a gift-maker, but due to time constraints the last few years I have become more of a gift-buyer. I don't really like it that way, and I still try to make as much as I can, but life changes don't leave as much time. I only thought having a house full of toddlers was a busy time of life!

I love to make homemade gifts. We also buy gifts. I even get the kids into making gifts and they love it. We actaully did baking today and made goody baskets for friends. And Yes i'm done!!! Yea!!

I also love to make gifts! There's just something about a homemade gift that says, "You are really extra-special, and therefore worth some extra time and thought and effort." My problem tends to be running out of ideas. I mean, just how many ornaments do my grandparents need, anyway? And there are a few things I've made over the years that only my grandparents or parents would want to receive as a gift. :D
Then, of course, there's the time issue...despite the fact that Christmas is always the 25th of December, it still manages to "sneak up on me" every year. Before I know it, it's too late to make much of anything. *sigh* I think I'll start planning for Christmas '09 in January.

Well, Amber has short and sweet down to a science, and I'm longwinded. *shrug* So we're total opposites, what else is new? :D

Haha, cute story about your online shopping troubles! Sounds like Bob was very nice...kinda cool that he was on "the" bus too. ;)

We don't do Christmas gifts in our family (except when we were growing up, my brother and I would get a few gifts from our parents/grandparents), so that makes it super easy! We just make dinner and enjoy the day together with probably a fire and some popcorn and games. :) I do make cards for my Christmas list every year though, my way of sending a gift from the heart...a nice note goes a long way! ;)

Your Christmas sounds like fun! :D We kind of combine the two--a few gifts (we don't do a whole lot of presents; we decided a few years ago that just a couple nice things was a lot better than a bunch of stuff you don't really care about) and a nice day at home with the family. *ah, yes* I can hardly wait for Christmas! :D
A nice note does go a long way!! I've always thought that, and I think "card sending" is sadly becoming a lost art. :( So, you go, girl! :D

Sex & "the good Christian single"

Yep. Buckle up, we're going there. This post might get a little uncomfortable, but it's a topic that can't exactly be ignored! And, as I said at the beginning of this little "series" earlier this year, "my goal is to be uncomfortably honest, vulnerable, real, raw." Besides, the world is talking about sex all the time , and if we as Jesus-followers don't talk about it from a Jesus-perspective, the world is going to shape the views and opinions of sex for an entire generation. Or two. Or more.  Let's start with some basic statements just for the sake of clarity: 1. Sex is God's idea, and it is good.  All through the Bible, from Adam & Eve being "naked & unashamed" in the garden of Eden (Genesis 2), to the graphic love poetry of Song of Solomon, to Paul exhorting husbands and wives to freely share their bodies with one another in 1 Corinthians 7, the Bible paints a picture of sex within marriage being good, beautiful, encourag

Six Flags!

Some would no doubt consider it a strange "Sabbath kick-off", but for me a trip to Six Flags Over Texas (in Arlington) was just the ticket! Between my love of roller coasters, the nostalgia this place holds, and the healthy benefits of fresh air and sunshine, it was fantastic. Oh, and the company was pretty great, too. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to have my "OG Six Flags fam" along--aka, my family and the Vests, of course! Six Flags has always been about facing and overcoming fear for me. I was a very fearful/timid child, and as an adult looking back I think one of the best things my parents did for my little anxious self was take me to ride roller coasters!! (I would insert the "tears of joy" emoji here if I could!) I was coaxed and cajoled on to rides I was hesitant about, but never forced to ride anything--though I waited in every line with them and I was not allowed to complain. Every year, there were rides where

oh, look! it's a blog!

I really thought I was going to do better at blogging this month. Ha! I have a post in my drafts section that I started two weeks ago, but there it sits. It's going to require more time and thought to finish than I have at this moment, so it will have to wait. However, it IS going to get finished and posted at some point! :) Today, for most of the day it's just Jonathan and I here at home. Weird, huh? Daddy, Micah, and Josiah are at a men's retreat/camp-out with the church, and Momma had to work today. So, Jonathan and I are hanging out (read: cleaning house and putting the new sheets on the beds and icing cupcakes :) ). This evening, there is a "praise for pro-life" thing at a church here in Springtown that we're planning to go to. It's a fundraiser for a pregnancy center. (October 24, 6 pm, Outreach of Love church on Hwy 199 in Springtown, admission is a baby bottle full of change...just in case anyone wanted to know!) Tomorrow after church, we're ha
