Wise & Witty Wednesday

OK, so I actually managed to forget that it was Wednesday and all that great stuff. SO, I posted right before after midnight. (what can I say? so I can't tell a lie... :D) Better late than never, right? RIGHT?! Alright, I better just post the quote and go to bed before I get really crazy on you all. :D Oh, wait, I still have to pick the quote. Here goes...
*grabs quote journal (yes, I really have one of those!) and madly quickly flips through the pages to find a good one...they're all good...OK, just PICK one!*

You were born an original. Don't die a copy." --John Mason
I do have one other thing to blog about before I go to bed...some "sad but exciting" news, to quote Wes Hampton. The Gaither Vocal Band has announced that their lead singer for 14 years (and one of our all-time favorites!) Guy Penrod is leaving the Vocal Band to start a solo career. At the same time, Marshall Hall, baritone for the GVB since 2004 (and another of our all-time favortes!), will also be leaving the group. We don't really know what it is he's moving on to do, but something about wanting to lead worship somewhere somehow. I'm going to miss seeing them with the GVB, but I know they're following the Lord's leading in their lives and I wish them the best. May the Lord bless them richly as they face new challenges and keep following Him!

The new Vocal Band will have 5 members instead of 4 (and NO, that is NOT a quartet; 5 members makes it a quintet): Bill Gaither (duh), Wes Hampton (the current tenor), Michael English (former GVB lead singer), Mark Lowry (former GVB baritone), and David Phelps (former GVB tenor). This "new" group made up of "old" members will, I'm sure, be great because Bill has an incredible talent of pulling together great groups and all of these guys individually have amazing voices and vocal ability. Personally, I'm going to very much miss the Bill-Marsh-Guy-Wes combination, and I'm very bummed that I've never met Guy Penrod (as well as VERY thankful that I did meet Marsh Hall back in October!), but I'm a little excited to see what the "new" group will produce. Maybe I will finally get to meet Mark Lowry...*shrug* And hopefully Guy will do a solo concert in our area sometime so I can still see/meet him. *crosses fingers...as if that will do any good*

So, anyway, just thought I'd pass that on. Here's the link to the official press release from the Gaithers if you want to read it: http://www.gaither.com/news/press.php?uid=1595
I found out about it last night. Honestly, I had to wait until today to post anything about it to make sure I had a chance to fully process this HUGE change and also to ensure I wouldn't say anything I'd later have to apologize for. :D I did cry when I first read the news; I don't like change, and like I said I'll miss these guys. I loved this combination and thought these four were the perfect group; adjusting to a new group will be challenging but, I can now say, exciting. All the best to all of these guys, and their families! Guy, Marsh, Wes, Bill, David, Mark, and Michael--God bless, and we love you! :D

And to all of you who actually read through this whole post (and those who just kinda skimmed it...you know who you are!)--good night and may God bless you richly, too! :D (after all, not ALL of His blessings are reserved for famous, amazing singers... ;D)

can I help it if your timing is all wrong?
I know...Guy was definitely one of my favorites, too! So, I just keep listening to "Lovin' Life" and "Give It Away" songs. :D Maybe tonight I'll watch "The Best of Guy Penrod"...

Sex & "the good Christian single"

Yep. Buckle up, we're going there. This post might get a little uncomfortable, but it's a topic that can't exactly be ignored! And, as I said at the beginning of this little "series" earlier this year, "my goal is to be uncomfortably honest, vulnerable, real, raw." Besides, the world is talking about sex all the time , and if we as Jesus-followers don't talk about it from a Jesus-perspective, the world is going to shape the views and opinions of sex for an entire generation. Or two. Or more.  Let's start with some basic statements just for the sake of clarity: 1. Sex is God's idea, and it is good.  All through the Bible, from Adam & Eve being "naked & unashamed" in the garden of Eden (Genesis 2), to the graphic love poetry of Song of Solomon, to Paul exhorting husbands and wives to freely share their bodies with one another in 1 Corinthians 7, the Bible paints a picture of sex within marriage being good, beautiful, encourag

Six Flags!

Some would no doubt consider it a strange "Sabbath kick-off", but for me a trip to Six Flags Over Texas (in Arlington) was just the ticket! Between my love of roller coasters, the nostalgia this place holds, and the healthy benefits of fresh air and sunshine, it was fantastic. Oh, and the company was pretty great, too. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to have my "OG Six Flags fam" along--aka, my family and the Vests, of course! Six Flags has always been about facing and overcoming fear for me. I was a very fearful/timid child, and as an adult looking back I think one of the best things my parents did for my little anxious self was take me to ride roller coasters!! (I would insert the "tears of joy" emoji here if I could!) I was coaxed and cajoled on to rides I was hesitant about, but never forced to ride anything--though I waited in every line with them and I was not allowed to complain. Every year, there were rides where

oh, look! it's a blog!

I really thought I was going to do better at blogging this month. Ha! I have a post in my drafts section that I started two weeks ago, but there it sits. It's going to require more time and thought to finish than I have at this moment, so it will have to wait. However, it IS going to get finished and posted at some point! :) Today, for most of the day it's just Jonathan and I here at home. Weird, huh? Daddy, Micah, and Josiah are at a men's retreat/camp-out with the church, and Momma had to work today. So, Jonathan and I are hanging out (read: cleaning house and putting the new sheets on the beds and icing cupcakes :) ). This evening, there is a "praise for pro-life" thing at a church here in Springtown that we're planning to go to. It's a fundraiser for a pregnancy center. (October 24, 6 pm, Outreach of Love church on Hwy 199 in Springtown, admission is a baby bottle full of change...just in case anyone wanted to know!) Tomorrow after church, we're ha
